That means you can bring in all your eligible plastic, glass, aluminium and liquid paperboard containers and see how quickly those refunds stack up!

While recycling is a fun way to earn a cash incentive, it's also critical for the environment. Reduce street litter and lessen your environmental impact by recycling common household containers. You can also get your business or community group involved!

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Why are some containers not eligible for a refund?

Some ineligible containers are difficult to process due to the size or material they are made from. This increases overall costs, which impacts the sustainability of the Containers for Change initiative. Many ineligible containers can still be recycled in other government recycling programs, such as through placing them in yellow-lidded bins.

  • Do I need to clean my containers before donating?

You don’t need to clean your containers; however, they should be empty and have their lids removed. It’s also recommended that you don’t crush cans—that way they are much easier to process.

  • Is there a quick way to tell if containers are eligible?

Yes. You can download the Containers for Change app and log in with your scheme ID. Then you can scan any barcode and immediately find out if the container is eligible to be recycled. Find the app for Android or Apple.

  • Can I get a tax invoice for my charity or business?

You should receive a tax invoice at your registered email account. If it’s not there, you’ll need to call the Containers for Change hotline or get in touch via email. Please phone 13 42 42 or email enquiries@containersforchange.com.au.
