Finding Eligible Containers

To check if a container is recyclable under the initiative, you can search the barcode or product type through the Containers for Change eligibility checker. Mareeba Recycling accepts most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and 3L, including common cans and bottles.

There are a number of undersized or oversized containers that are not eligible for a 10-cent refund. However, these items can still be recycled through council programs, such as the yellow-lidded kerbside collection bins. Want to get in touch? Call our friendly team on 0433 146 625.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I need to enter banking information when I register a scheme ID?

Yes. You are required to enter your bank details when you create a scheme ID so that refunds can be deposited directly into your account via EFT. Bank information is needed even if you select PayPal as your preferred payment method because it helps to ensure your refund is always deposited to you.

  • Do you offer a bag drop service?

We have a designated bag drop at our site. You will need a scheme ID to drop off your bags. Then we will tag and sort your items, processing the refund within 1-3 business days.

  • Should I separate glass containers from the rest?

If you separate glass containers from plastic and aluminium containers, we can usually process your donation a little faster. This applies to both manual drops and donations made through counting machines.

  • Why did the government introduce the Containers for Change Scheme?

The Containers for Change initiative was created by the Queensland Government to help reduce street litter and encourage recycling. Under the scheme, 10-cent refunds are paid for all eligible containers.
