We accept most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and 3L. While we cannot accept oversized or undersized containers, you can still recycle these in the yellow-lidded kerbside collection bins.

These days, many containers display a refund mark, such as 10c in a square. You can also check the barcode or product type through the Containers for Change eligibility checker. Frequently Asked Questions

  • What should I keep my eligible containers in?

We encourage the use of reusable storage options such as chaff bags and bulk bags as these are strong and avoid contributing to waste. You can also stack glass bottles back into the cardboard cartons they came in, as this helps to prevent breakage during transport to your nearest recycle centre.

  • Do you accept crushed cans?

We do accept crushed cans; however, we recommend not to crush them if possible. This is because it’s much easier to process whole cans.

  • Do I need to show ID to drop off my recyclable containers?

You’ll need to show your driver’s licence if you return more than 825 containers to a container refund point that counts your containers when you’re there. In addition, you’ll need to sign a refund declaration form if you return more than 1,500 containers at one time.

  • Can I donate to a charity that doesn't have a scheme ID?

We need a scheme ID in order to electronically process a refund direct to the bank account or PayPal of a charity. If your favourite charity doesn’t have an ID yet, we encourage you to let them know about Containers for Change and how they can register.
