The Containers for Change initiative was started in 2018 and many containers now display a refund mark, such as “10-cent refund at collection depots in participating State/Territory of purchase.” At our recycle centre in Gordonvale, we accept most aluminium, glass, plastic, steel and liquid paperboard beverage containers between 150ml and 3L.

What is recycling?

Recycling is a process of converting waste materials such as aluminium cans, glass jars and plastic bottles into new items. By recycling, you can keep these items off the street and out of landfill while also reducing the environmental impacts of creating new plastic, glass and aluminium.
What happens when containers are recycled?

Containers are sorted, crushed and baled before being distributed to be recycled. Soft plastics can be made into polyester fibres which are used to make clothing, carpets and other fabrics. Metal containers are melted down to produce steel sheets that are often used in building construction.
Does recycling save energy?

Yes, it does. When we recycle paper, glass and metals rather than putting them into landfill, we are reducing greenhouse gases.
